Frederick Douglass (1818-1895), enslaved African in America who escaped to freedom and became a leading orator, abolitionist, writer, publisher, and statesman, is the inspiration of Ruth Naomi Floyd and her ensemble who present jazz works comprised of original compositions based on his speeches and writings.
